I use it for basic stuff but for more sophisticated manipulation I have been using Excel. But it is a rather complicated tool for manipulating text in spreadsheets. My preferred spreadsheet manipulation tool is <a href="http://openrefine.org/index.html>Open Refine</a>. As a result of reading your post I checked out Google Add-ons. That Power Tools Add-on you mention has good reviews so I have installed it. I have also installed Export Sheet Data which allows you to export your spreadsheet into XML or JSON format. There is also a Gmail Scheduler add-on which allows you to use a Google spreadsheet to schedule the sending of emails some time in the future.
